The Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement calls for the U.S. and Canada to convene the Great Lakes Public Forum once every three years to discuss the state of the lakes, progress made under the Agreement and priorities to guide science and actions over the next three years, as well as provide an opportunity for public input.

The 2019 Great Lakes Public Forum will be held in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Niagara Regional Native Centre presents Urban Indigenous Homeward Bound

Urban Indigenous Homeward Bound is a four-phase, housing-based, post-secondary housing and employment program that systematically addresses the barriers that Indigenous mothers face. The goal of the program is to improve the lives of Indigenous families.

Intake is now open. Drop in to see the new office space and meet staff.

Light snack and refreshments, as well as referral packages will be available.

NCO Policy Brief Launch – Niagara’s Agribusiness Sector: Towards a More Resilient Innovation Cluster @ Meridian Community Centre - Dr. Gary & Mall Accursi Room

There appear to be two conflicting realities surrounding Niagara’s agribusiness sector. On the one hand, there are indications the sector legitimately boasts world-class agribusiness assets and strengths, while on the other hand, there are some underlying gaps and challenges in leveraging the sector’s full potential. The Niagara Region Economic Development division has partnered with the Niagara Community Observatory at Brock University to take a closer look at the state of the region’s agribusiness sector.

Dr. Charles Conteh, author of the NCO’s policy brief #40, “Niagara’s Agribusiness Sector: Towards a More Resilient Innovation Cluster”, will present his findings followed by a panel discussion and open Q&A.

The policy brief paints a portrait of recent trends in the sector in Niagara relative to similar mid-sized regions in southern Ontario. In doing so, it identifies some of the industry-specific strengths of agribusiness in Niagara as well as highlights existing weaknesses and gaps. From this, Dr. Conteh draws some inferences to provide an analysis of how to further leverage the sector’s potential and address existing problems in pursuit of greater resilience and adaptability.
