Joining a Board of Directors: What Are You Getting Yourself Into? @ Online
Jun 20 @ 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm

Being a board member for the first time means a lot of things: taking on significant responsibility, doing a tremendous service, and committing to learning a lot of new things. But what does a board member actually do? What are your roles, responsibilities and duties? How much time should you expect to commit? What expertise do you need to bring to the table? Many people join boards without knowing the answers to these questions, which sometimes makes the reality of board membership a bit surprising, to say the least.

This webinar will provide participants with guidance about what boards expect of you, and what you should expect from your board. We will cover the fundamentals about being a director, bust some myths, and help to get you ready for board membership.

This webinar has the following learning objectives:

  • Understand the basic roles and responsibilities of board members
  • Get introduced to what makes board membership challenging and how to prepare yourself
  • Set your expectations about what you should expect from your board and what they should expect of you

This webinar is hosted by CharityVillage.

Addressing Mental Health and Well-being by Creating Balanced and Supportive Post-Secondary Environments @ Online
Jun 25 @ 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm

Students that are transitioning from high school to post-secondary education can experience a great amount of stress (Sheng, 2017).

According to the National Institute of Mental Health, routine stress can contribute to mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety. The majority of people entering or preparing for post-secondary education, 15-24 year olds, are more likely to experience mental illness than any other age group (CAMH, 2012). Many changes occur during this period that are unfamiliar and out of their control.

In response to these statistics, specifically looking at young adults 18 years of age and older, and in the interest of evolving education practices with inclusive principles while improving well-being, this webinar will discuss how post-secondary institutions can provide a welcoming, holistic, and supportive environment, demonstrated by physical and sensorial elements.

This webinar is hosted by the Centre for Innovation in Campus Mental Health.
