A vibrant gathering of fifty individuals from Niagara environmental organizations was hosted by the Niagara Community Foundation on August 11, 2026. The event was held in collaboration with Biodiversity and Climate Action Niagara, Land Care Niagara, Community Potential, the Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority, and the City of Niagara Falls.
Held at the Gale Centre in Niagara Falls, the meeting saw environmental organizations, nonprofits, municipalities, charity partners, and community groups learn about funding opportunities and shared priorities across Niagara; exchange ideas, resources and practical knowledge; and build new connections and strengthen collaboration.
Participants provided valuable insights to inform the Environment Sector of the Living in Niagara (LIN) 2026 quality of life report, which will be released in January, 2027. Themes that emerged include a need for: acquiring resources (e.g., property, funding, human resources); redirection and infrastructure, both to support conservation and to offer solutions to climate change (tree canopy, water, energy redirection); and strengthening community knowledge of environment and climate change.
Environment Sector Suggested Action Steps in the LIN-2023 report were reviewed by participants. It remains urgent for people in Niagara to take action to reduce climate and environmental impacts; and to share knowledge with the people of Niagara, to increase awareness of their environment, and actions to deal with climate and environmental impacts.
