In August 2025, the unemployment rate increased in Niagara, while labour force participation remained stagnant, and the employment rate declined. These trends mostly mirrored provincial and national trends.

Similar to July, individuals in the youth age bracket saw their employment and labour force participation increase, while unemployment declined. Youth unemployment is still higher, and their labour force engagement and employment lower than during pre-pandemic levels.

Local industry employment gains in Niagara in August were concentrated in other services (except public administration; +22.8% monthly increase in employment), business, building and other support services (+15.9%); and information, culture and recreation (+5.1%). August job demand was reduced from July, with a decline of 11.5% of new job posts. Top hiring industries in August in Niagara included retail trade (611 new job posts), health care and social assistance (407); and accommodation and food services (376).
