In 2013, the Ontario Tender Fruit Producers Marketing Board conducted a project to evaluate the usefulness of soil moisture monitoring devices in Ontario tender fruit orchards. Using different soil moisture monitoring equipment and uploading the information to a website, the project goal was to help farmers make informed decisions about when to irrigate and how much water needs to be applied. Being able to upload and download the data online allows for knowledge transfer to other farmers. Accurate irrigation monitoring and application aimed to improve water efficiency in Ontario tender fruit orchards. Watch this short video for more information or read the project report.
