National Day for Truth and Reconciliation was established by the federal government in 2021 in response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Call to Action 80. The purpose of this national day is to honour Survivors, their families and communities, and to ensure that public commemoration of the history and legacy of residential schools remains a vital component of the reconciliation process.
