SUMMARY:Bicycle Friendly Community Program Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Have you ever wondered what The Share the Road Cycling Coalition’s Bicycle Friendly Community program is all about? Would you like your community to apply\, but aren’t sure to begin? Are you wondering what the benefits are to the process and the designation? Then this webinar is for you! \nWe’re hosting an information webinar on October 9\, 2025 from 2-3:30 p.m. Joining us for this informative session are: Andy Clarke\, Director of Strategy at Toole Design and former President of the League of American Bicyclists and Coalition Board Members Waterloo Councilor Diane Freeman\, and Dave McLaughlin\, Senior Project Manager\, National Active Transportation Planning and Design Lead Canada\, WSP. \nIn 2010\, The Share the Road Cycling Coalition brought the Bicycle Friendly Community (BFC) program to Canada in partnership with our colleagues at the Washington-based League of American Bicyclists. \nSince the launch\, 45 communities now enjoy a BFC designation\, with 59% of Ontarians living in a Bicycle Friendly community. The benefits to the program are numerous and include awards for progress – and a roadmap with practical advice on how your municipality can become more bicycle-friendly. \n\nTo register for this webinar please email Aleks Duric\, aleksandar@sharetheroad.ca\nYou will receive a link to the session via email.

SUMMARY:Meditation & Mindfulness
DESCRIPTION:Join us each month as we engage in activities of self-care to promote positive brain health and meaningful connections. We welcome anyone who is looking to relax and have fun! \nThis session\, led by facilitator Heather Finlayson Fenton\, offers participants a chance to rest\, reconnect\, and learn simple practices to support emotional resilience. We’ll explore how to begin and/or sustain a regular meditation practice\, bring mindfulness into daily life\, and meet each moment with greater compassion and acceptance. \nThrough guided meditation and practical tools\, you’ll learn how to calm the mind\, ground the body\, and care for yourself with kindness. These aren’t just ideas\, but inner capacities we can cultivate to create ease and increase joy. \nNo experience needed—just a willingness to pause and breathe. Transportation available if needed. \nFunding provided by the New Horizons for Seniors Program.

SUMMARY:CANADA TALKS - The Interactive Documentary in Canada
DESCRIPTION:“An Incomplete History of the Interactive Documentary in Canada”\nA presentation and discussion with Dr. Michael Brendan Baker\, Sheridan College\, co-editor and co-author of the book The Interactive Documentary in Canada (McGill-Queen’s University Press\, 2024) \nIn the early 2000s\, Canada made a push to become a global leader in the developing field of interactive documentaries\, or i-docs. This effort was led in large measure by the National Film Board of Canada (NFB)\, a state-funded film studio that had long been known for its commitment to three things:  1) nonfiction filmmaking and documentary representation; 2) advancing the state of the art through technical and technological sophistication; and 3) politically engaged and socially committed filmmaking. In many ways the launch of the NFB’s Digital Studio in 2008 was a continuation and an expansion of these traditions. It placed Canada at the cutting edge of the digital interactive documentary in all its many forms. This lecture will revisit this history\, highlight some of its most significant projects\, and discuss its contemporary relevance.
