Us and Them Documentary Screening 7:00 pm
Us and Them Documentary Screening @ Brock University - David S. Howes Theatre
Feb 9 @ 7:00 pm – 10:00 pm
The Brock Sociology Department in collaboration with the United Way, St. Catharines & District presents the documentary US & THEM. To bring attention to the issues of homelessness and addiction, US AND THEM is touring Canadian communities. The response after every show has been incredible; audience members are leaving with a newfound compassion and desire to help the chronically homeless. US AND THEM was written and directed by Krista Loughton and award-winning filmmaker Jennifer Abbott who joined the project in 2013. Abbott is the co-director and editor of the widely acclaimed film THE CORPORATION, one of Canada’s most successful documentaries. The Canadian tour of US AND THEM will continue into 2018 and the line-up so far has included an exclusive screening on Parliament Hill for all of Canada’s MPs on September 26, 2017. The Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Families, Children and Social Development, hosted the event. The film also screened at the Canadian Housing and Renewal Association’s (CHRA) Annual Congress in May 2017, and at the Union of BC Municipalities Annual Conference in September 2017. St. Catharines is joining US AND THEM’s national efforts to raise awareness about homelessness and addiction through a compassionate lens. At a time when Canada is in the midst of both a housing and opioid crisis, a national effort to raise awareness about homelessness and addiction through a compassionate lens has never been more relevant. Empty Bowls Fundraiser for Bethlehem Housing and Support Services @ Club Roma
Mar 7 @ 6:00 pm

Help end homelessness and reduce the impact of poverty across the Niagara region at the 13th Annual Empty Bowls Fundraiser for Bethlehem!

Niagara’s finest chefs prepare and serve their favourite gourmet soup in one-of-a-kind bowls created by local potters. Included as the perfect complement are local Niagara wines and beer, specialty teas, fresh bread and delicious sweets. There were over 350 guests and 22 food and beverage vendors at the 2017 Empty Bowls. A People’s Choice and Platinum Ladle award for best soup is presented to one of Niagara’s many talented chefs at the end of the evening.

Guests take their empty bowl home as a reminder of those who struggle to meet basic living needs and secure affordable housing throughout our community. Last year, Empty Bowls raised over $30,000 for programming at Bethlehem Housing and Support Services!

This event is hosted by Bethlehem Housing and Support Services.
