Senior Pride Network Niagara Meeting @ Niagara Region Headquarters

Senior Pride Network Niagara hosts meetings on a quarterly basis. These meetings are an opportunity for organizations serving Niagara’s senior communities can network to exchange information, knowledge, experiences, and problem-solving, and learn about becoming safe and welcoming to older LGBTQ2S citizens.

This meeting will include a training component on intersex.

The Business of Ageing Niagara Network (BANN), launched by AGEWORKS™ in conjunction with Niagara College, is a membership-based networking group for individuals who are interested in learning more about issues pertaining to an ageing population, age inclusiveness and targeting older adults.

Speaker: Dr. Amy D’Aprix, MSW, PhD, CPCA and International Life Transition Expert

Topic: Helping your clients manage difficult life transitions

What practical guidance and tools can we use to help clients in times of change? How do we help clients become proactive planners to better stay in control of their lives? How do we enhance our relationships with clients and their families at these times?

Meetings will be held quarterly at Niagara College, Welland Campus on Wednesday evenings between 5:30 -7:30pm. Each meeting will have a relevant speaker/presentation topic for 30-45 minute, then 1.5-hour networking session. Refreshments will be served at each meeting.

BANN will connect businesses, industry leaders and subject matter experts by providing a platform for collaboration, professional development and resource sharing relating to issues pertaining to an ageing population, age inclusiveness and the longevity economy. The network offers a forum to come together to discuss business opportunities and to share information and ideas about diversifying their markets and expanding focus to benefit older consumers and leverage age inclusiveness.

Positive Approach to Care for Care Partners @ Alzheimer Society of Niagara Region

“Positive Approach to Care” for Care Partners: Normal Aging versus Not Normal Aging

Facilitator: Gail MacKenzie-High, Psychogeriatric Resource Consultant

Join certified Teepa Snow trainers to discuss Normal Aging versus Not Normal Aging. This workshop helps learners understand and recognize the differences in “normal” and “not normal” aging. The workshop emphasizes the value of matching helping behaviours to the person’s needs and retained abilities to promote a sense of control and self-direction, and addresses typical issues that occur throughout the progression of dementia.

This workshop is hosted by the Alzheimer Society of Niagara Region.
